Automotive car signal lights span a wide spectrum of lighting technology. From the marker function during nighttime to warning functions in daylight, the candela application range is many times the power of ten. The light source and optical system must be adapted to the task.

Lighting designers at Hella must consider the technical requirements for signal lights, which vary with regard to color, light distribution, and luminous intensity. This necessitates a corresponding physical minimum demand of luminous flux in the respective signal light function. The general difference in their properties can be explained by looking at the central luminous intensity of the lighting functions.
