Heavy-duty oil/coolant heat exchangers

Behr Heat Transfer Systems has developed a series of aluminum oil coolers that improve performance and reduce weight.

Oil-to-coolant heat exchangers for heavy-duty engine and transmission cooling applications have remained largely unchanged for the past 15 years. Meanwhile, requirements for fuel economy, emissions, and recyclability have increased dramatically. Aluminum heat exchangers contribute to meeting these requirements, with their high performance density, low weight, and ease of recyclability.

In the past 20 years, aluminum has proven to be a very suitable material for heat exchangers in passenger cars and trucks. Aluminum has not been used for heavy-duty oil heat exchanger applications due to the need for long service life under high oil pressures.
