A new generation of military ground vehicles has arrived with robotic and fully autonomous capability thanks to recent advances in AI and other technologies.
The proliferation of UAVs in the skies over modern battlefields has made many air-based military ops pilotless. That trend may soon extend to ground-based warfare as well. Several commercial truck OEMs and defense contractors have recently announced plans for unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) to take drivers out of the line of fire.
“Physical AI is pushing computing into some of the most complex and data-intensive environments in the world,” said Wayne Lyons, senior director, Automotive Market, AMD. “These new data streams as well as new vehicle platforms designed to harness them have given defense contractors and commercial truck OEMs the ability to deploy a new generation of autonomous ground vehicles.”
