For the first time in nearly two decades, three new General Motors vehicles will feature an inline six-cylinder engine developed by GM Powertrain.

According to GM Powertrain engineers, the all-new inline six-cylinder (I6) Vortec 4200 engine will provide the power, capability, and smoothness of a premium V8 and the fuel efficiency of a six-cylinder engine.

Production of the Vortec 4200 begins in early 2001 in a new plant in Flint, MI, and the engine will be standard in the 2002 Oldsmobile Bravada, GMC Envoy, and Chevrolet TrailBlazer.
