Volkswagen's belief in the future of the diesel engine, and its potential for still greater efficiency, was underlined at the International Vienna Motor Symposium, with VW AG Chairman Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn announcing that a variable-valve diesel engine delivering 100 kW (134 hp) per liter fitted with a high-pressure injection system of up to 3000 bar (43.5 ksi) is in development, as is a ten-speed DSG (double-clutch) automated manual transmission. And all the company's car classes will eventually be available with an electrical drivetrain component.
