Perkins' influence in the off-highway industry grows as it evolves its global engine lines and expands its presence in the U.S.

To engine designers, there is something more sure in life beside death and taxes, and that is emissions regulations. Unlike death and taxes, however, the outcomes of emissions regulations are beneficial, including cleaner air and technological breakthroughs. Along the way, of course, there are plenty of challenges.

Perkins Engines faced some of those challenges up close in 2001 when it replaced its New 1000 series engines-which were introduced in 1997 and had until that time been the most successful engine Perkins had ever debuted-with the 1100C engine family. Then just last year Perkins announced that it had designed a new-generation 1100D range to replace the 1100C, with the first order being built this coming July. Its motive? Emissions.
