Car makers explore the marriage of performance with efficiency in some of their latest concept vehicles.
With the global performance car power race streaking past 600 hp (450 kW), with no sign of relenting any time soon, performance and driving excitement may seem at odds with environmental responsibility and fuel economy. But automakers have used some of the latest concept cars to explore and exhibit ideas to give enthusiasts fun-to-drive cars that can also serve as examples of social conscience.
“The future and the environmental issues are on the top of our agenda,” remarked Anthony Lo, Director of Advanced Design for General Motors Europe. “At the same time, the desirability of our products is absolutely essential,” he pointed out. “We are creating a really sexy, desirable product that people would want to have.”
