Researchers from the Milwaukee School of Engineering provide an accurate model of a typical magnetic actuator.

Like any complicated engineering system, electrohydraulic systems-such as those in construction machinery and diesel engines-need to be accurately simulated. System simulations enable engineers to predict the performance of trial engineering designs, ultimately reducing time-to-market and engineering costs.

In electrohydraulic systems, the link between the electronic control command signal and the hydraulic system is usually a magnetic actuator. Magnetic actuators are used, for example, in proportional electrohydraulic valves and fuel injectors in diesel and gasoline engines. Simulation can provide new insights into the transient behavior of coupled electric, magnetic, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
