With an impending shortage of aerospace engineers, industry and academia team to mold future engineering talent for an increasingly global environment.

Earlier this year, a U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) report on the “New Department of Defense (DOD) Space Science and Technology (S&T) Strategy” concluded that “the workforce needed to carry out S&T for space is facing shortages. DOD officials cited staff shortages with science and engineering backgrounds and had more concerns about the future since their workforces were reaching retirement age.”

The GAO report cited earlier studies acknowledging that recruitment of new personnel is difficult because “the space industry is one of many sectors competing for the limited number of trained scientists and engineers.”
