Co-founder of San Diego State University Baja SAE team narrates a success story from behind the wheel.
SINCE THE SAN DIEGO STATE UNIVERSITY - Aztec Baja SAE team began as only a group of three senior design students that wanted to build a race car back in 2010, the primary goal has always been to win the four-hour endurance race at a Baja SAE competition.
With the gracious support of a fellow San Diego State University (SDSU) alumni and five-time Overall Baja 1000 winner Mark McMillin, the team was granted access to the McMillin Racing shop to fabricate the 2010 racecar. Max Krommenhoek pioneered that first team of three to a ninth-place finish in the four-hour endurance event in 2010. Two more years of completely new SDSU senior design teams built new cars with intent to win endurance, but continued to come up short and then graduate and take the knowledge with them.
