The impact and potential of Web technologies dominated discussion at SAE's Automotive Manufacturing Conference & Exposition in June.

Internet-based technologies are changing the automotive industry “faster than at any time in all my years in this business,” said Guy Briggs in the opening keynote address at SAE's Automotive Manufacturing Conference & Exposition held June 6-7 in Dearborn, MI. He believes Web technologies could have as much impact on automobile manufacturing as did the introduction of Henry Ford's mass production methods.

“Our industry has a tremendous opportunity to leverage this technology to help not only cut costs but, probably most importantly, increase the quality and reliability of our great vehicles - and also improve productivity and the speed at which we do business,” said Brigss, General Motors Vice President and General Manager of GM Truck Group Operations.
