Gopher Motorsports at the University of Minnesota places special emphasis on reliability, with positive results ensuing.

THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA'S FORMULA SAE TEAM, Gopher Motorsports, has a long history of participation in the Formula SAE Michigan event. The team's inception was in the late 1990s when the team consisted of only a few dedicated members who shared a common passion for motorsports. Over time, the team grew to have a larger roster, but was disbanded in the early 2000s for several years.

The current Gopher Motorsports team was reformed in 2008 and has attended the Formula SAE Michigan competition every year since. The Gopher Motorsports program gives students an experience that is unparalleled by any other resource available at the University of Minnesota. It is a unique program where students get to experience the entire engineering cycle first hand within the course of one school year. It also allows students to have direct experience dealing with professional members of industry, since the team works closely with many industry sponsors to reach its goals each year.
