This special section of Testing and Simulation focuses on different aspects of digital product development.
Stile Bertone was opened in Turin, Italy, in 1971. In a period where the predominant trend was to centralize industrial resources, Nuccio Bertone chose to give Stile Bertone an independent facility, making it the center of all design, styling, modeling, and prototyping activities. Bertone is now one of the world's most prestigious brand names, and has partnerships with automotive manufacturers such as Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin, BMW, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lancia, and Maserati.
A recent collaboration between Bertone and Alfa Romeo is an example of how advanced technology can influence styling development. Bertone designers have been using Alias StudioTools design software for several years in the early stages of design, from sketching to virtual 3-D presentations. On the Alfa Romeo GT project development, a team of exterior and interior design directors, stylists, and engineers worked together to implement interactions between the creative and technological resources of the company. From early sketch to final product, it took about 30 months to develop the new coupe.
