Researchers correlate engine performance and durability with the properties of alternative fuels that consist of vegetable oils and animal fats.
Fuels using vegetable oils and animal fats are increasingly being used in small power generation plants using stationary diesel engines.
These kinds of oils can have engine performances comparable with those of the traditional diesel fuel, they are a renewable source of energy, and they contribute less to greenhouse gas emissions, since the CO2 formed during combustion has been previously fixed by plants (e.g., closed carbon cycle apart from fossil CO2 emitted during farming and transport).
