Fuel efficiency and performance advantages make diesel technology a compelling one for automakers and suppliers, despite its emissions disadvantages. Diesel will be among the more important technologies discussed in detail at the SAE 2003 World Congress March 3-6 in Detroit's Cobo Center.
New Cummins diesel engines may not find their way into production light-duty vehicles prior to the introduction of low-sulfur fuel in late 2006, but it will not be because they can't meet tough new emissions regulations, according to John Wall, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at Cummins Inc.
“We've developed the technologies, we've developed the designs, and we're working with customers,” said Wall, who will speak about the future of diesel engines on Tuesday, March 4 at the SAE 2003 World Congress.
