One of the consistent themes we're hearing from automotive manufacturers is the need to increase speed in production processes. Consumer demands have required OEMs to be flexible and fast, as many strive to find the right balance of production models. At the operational heart of that desire to increase throughput are conveyors, which are time-tested and serve as the backbone to many end users 'processes. While they haven't fundamentally changed much since first appearing on assembly lines in the early 20th century, they have evolved to meet modern needs, and manufacturers need to be aware of how they can impact productivity. Moreover, because of their foundational position in production, how they're designed and integrated into a physical footprint can have an equal bearing on how throughput goals can be reached.

One of the more popular conveyors within automotive manufacturing has been driven roller conveyors that transport payloads linearly and feature functional units that can lift, transverse, and rotate payloads as needed. These conveyors are modular, which provides flexibility for manufacturers if they need to expand or condense operations with sections that can be easily removed or added. That adds a return on their investment, which is critical, especially for those in small to mid-sized markets.
