Fault monitors for off-highway equipment offer a means of minimizing the severity of transmission tie-ups.
Hardware faults follow the bathtub reliability curve where there are significant failures initially, then the system provides adequate reliability until wear-out occurs.
Software failures are the result of either design errors or undiscovered software implementation errors. In either case, the failure is always present and is waiting for the proper set of conditions to execute. In some cases, the failure will occur the first time that the set of commands are executed, while in other circumstances, the error may result due to truncation, which requires several iterations of the particular loop to result in a failure.
