Modern satellites use motors for many purposes — moving solar panels for optimum alignment to the Sun; moving reaction wheels to change the orientation of the satellite, steering antennae for telecommunication, ground contact, and radar purposes; and moving focal planes, mirrors, and filters in imaging satellites, to name just a few examples.
