Next-generation communications and navigation solutions facilitate green approaches and new flight efficiencies for airlines.

With the U.S. FAA's recent validation of broadcast services of air traffic, as well as weather and aeronautical data information, for 11 ADS-B (Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast) ground stations in southern Florida, the agency is moving forward with what it considers the key component of its Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen).

Prime contractor ITT will now extend the ADS-B broadcast services for 19 en route service volumes, which are FAA-defined airspace areas within the U.S., and also deploy surveillance services to four sites: Louisville, KY; Philadelphia, PA; the Gulf of Mexico; and Juneau, AK. IOC (initial operational capability) for Louisville is scheduled for October, with the other sites following at two-month intervals.
