Like two lines intersecting on a financial chart, one going down and the other going up, the future of manned ISR (intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance) and unmanned ISR are moving in different directions.
With the planned retirement of the U-2 spy plane, the 2007 cancellation of the E-10A multi-sensor command and control aircraft, and the recent collapse of NATO's AGS (Alliance Ground Surveillance) program, manned ISR is clearly undergoing a time of sunset.
