This SAE Standard specifies uniform methods for the testing of threadless connections for hydraulic fluid power applications. These connections are intended for general application and hydraulic systems on industrial equipment and commercial products. These connections shall be capable of providing leakproof connections in hydraulic systems operating from 95 kPa vacuum to working pressures specified by the manufacturer. Since many factors influence the pressure at which a hydraulic system will or will not perform satisfactorily, it is recommended that sufficient testing be conducted and reviewed by both the user and manufacturer to ensure that required performance levels are met.
Since the torque converter and fluid coupling are commonly used components of automatic transmissions in industry, SAE appointed a committee to standardize terminology, test procedures, data recording, design symbols, and so forth in this field. The following committee recommendations will facilitate a clear understanding for engineering discussions, comparisons, and the preparation of technical papers. The recommended usages represent the predominant practice or the acceptable practice. Where agreement is not complete, alternates have been included for clarification. This SAE Recommended Practice deals only with the physical parts and dimensions and does not attempt to standardize the design considerations, such as the actual fluid flow angle resulting from the physical blade shape.
This SAE Recommended Practice defines a clearance line for establishing dimensional compatibility between drum brakes and wheels with 19.5-inch, 22.5-inch, and 24.5-inch diameter rims. Wheels designed for use with drum brakes may not be suitable for disc brake applications. The lines provided establish the maximum envelope for brakes, including all clearances, and minimum envelope for complete wheels to allow for interchangeability. This document addresses the dimensional characteristics only and makes no reference to the performance, operational dynamic deflections, or heat dissipation of the system. Valve clearances have not been included in the fitment lines. Bent valves may be required to clear brake drums. Disc brake applications may require additional running clearances beyond those provided by the minimum contour lines. Mounting systems as noted are referenced in SAE J694.

This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) defines a series of standardized tube walls to be used for high pressure hydraulic tubing. These tube walls are applicable to all homogenous tube materials (i.e., aluminum, steel, titanium) throughout a rated pressure range of 1000 to 8000 psi and a maximum rated operating temperature range of 160 to 450 °F. SAE J2579 is being developed by the SAE Fuel Cell Vehicle (FCV) Standards Committee to provide recommended practices for Fuel Systems in Fuel Cell and Other Hydrogen Vehicles. As part of this work, definitions for pressurized systems and containers were developed. This test method provides a standardized procedure for evaluating the electrical resistance of automotive coolant hose covers. It is known that an electrical potential exists between the engine and the radiator. Coolant hose cover conductivity has been determined to be a factor to reduce hose clamp life when vehicle build variations allow possible contact of the hose or the clamp to metal components on the radiator and engine thus completing an electrical circuit. The ensuing electrical current can undercut the clamp protective coating, leaving it vulnerable to the corrosive effects of road salts, moisture, and other environmental contaminants. SAE Recommended Practice J1684 addresses the electrochemical resistance of the tube portion of the coolant hose.

This approach stems from the greater knowledge of biomechanics and existing dummy technologies for the midsize male relative to other adult sizes and children. While not the initial objective, it is envisioned that additional performance specifications for other sizes of pedestrian research dummies will be developed in the future based on accepted scaling procedures. The specific requirements for the pedestrian dummy have been based on a collective assessment of pedestrian injury, response, and anthropometry priorities from the experimental, epidemiologic, and computational literature. Rainflow cycle counting has become the most accepted procedure for identifying material fatigue relevant cycles in complex variable amplitude load time histories. The cycle counting methods account for the effects of material plasticity and material memory of prior deformation, and the resulting compressed history information is used by durability analysts to estimate the effects of a given service or test history. This SAE practice is intended for the sample preparation of test pieces for automotive wheels and wheel trim. The practice provides a consistent scribing method for use on test panels and or component parts with substrate chemical pretreatment and coating systems. Test specimens can then be subjected to various corrosion tests in order to evaluate performance without significant variations of the degree of exposure of the substrate. The scribing is used to create a break in the coating/finishing as can occur in the field through gravel and other damaging conditions. NOTE— Significant variability is attributed to surface contour, coating hardness/softness, operator reproducibility, and the scribing tool and it’s condition.

Test procedures, methods and definitions for the performance of the fuel processor subsystem (FPS) of a fuel cell system (FCS) are provided. Fuel processor subsystems (FPS) include all components required in the conversion of input fuel and oxidizer into a hydrogen-rich product gas stream suitable for use in fuel cells. Performance of the fuel processor subsystem includes evaluating system energy inputs and useful outputs to determine fuel conversion efficiency and where applicable the overall thermal effectiveness. Each of these performance characterizations will be determined to an uncertainty of less than ± 2% of the value.
