Abstract
Content
The federal government has started new programs leading to standards in vehicle handling, crashworthiness, driver training, accident research, vehicle inspection, and record systems.
The first set of federal standards for private vehicles was issued by the Department of Transportation in 1967, based primarily on the General Services Administration’s background; another set of proposed federal vehicle safety standards is in the process of review.
The mathematical modeling approach is proposed as a method to assimilate the facts and help evaluate effectiveness of vehicle safety standards.
