Scope
This SAE Recommended Practice establishes a standard method to perform screening test sequences that identify a brake friction material’s effectiveness under various test conditions. The result is an evaluation of brake friction material effectiveness under a set of defined braking conditions considered most relevant to automobile braking system development.
Rationale
This document has been revised to be consistent with recent changes made to SAE J2521 and SAE J2784.

Brake Dynamometer Standards Committee
The Brake Dynamometer Standards Committee is part of the Foundation Brake Steering Committee that reports to the Motor Vehicle Council. The committee is responsible for developing standards, recommended practices, and information reports for brake dynamometer testing, for on-road vehicles below 4540 kg of Gross Vehicle Weight Rating. The committee also maintains liaison activities with other Standard Development Organizations or industry consortia.
