MEASUREMENT OF EXTERIOR SOUND LEVELS FOR HEAVY TRUCKS UNDER STATIONARY CONDITIONS

Light Vehicle Exterior Sound Level Standards Committee

The Light Vehicle Exterior Sound Level Standards Committee is part of the Vehicle Engineering Sound Level Forum Committee that reports to the Vehicle Systems Group of the Motor Vehicle Council. The Committee is responsible for developing and maintaining SAE Standards, Recommended Practices, and Information Reports related to the measurement of sound levels in passenger cars and light trucks including pickups, vans and sport utility vehicles. While the sound measurement techniques have remained constant for a number of years, changes in the vehicle powertrain configurations require updates to ensure comparable operating methods for the variety of products. The committee has also undertaken the review and coordination of comments related to the procedures being developed by the International Organization for Standardization's (ISO) Working Group 42, Measurement of noise emission (external) from road vehicles. The committee will also review the technical validity of any governmental regulations promulgated by the United States or other countries where US products are being sold. Participants in the SAE Light Vehicle Exterior Sound Level Standards Committee include OEMs, suppliers, consulting firms, government, and other interested parties.
