This standard covers three (3) basic types of flight recorders as defined below:
All requirements specified in sections 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7 of this standard shall be applicable to all recorder types unless otherwise noted.

A-4 Aircraft Instruments Committee
The A-4 Committee is responsible for mechanical, electromechanical and electronic cockpit instrumentation standards applicable to all civil aircraft, with emphasis on minimum performance standards intended for reference in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Technical Standard Orders (TSO).
