Scope
This standard provides minimum performance criteria for air data instruments intended to provide cockpit indication of:
-
a
Indicated airspeed (Vi)
-
b
Computer airspeed (Vc)
-
c
True airspeed (Vt)
-
d
Equivalent airspeed (Ve)
-
e
Mach number (M)
-
f
Altitude (H)
-
g
Vertical speed (Hpr)
-
h
Maximum operating limit speed (Vmo)
-
i
True angle of attack (αt)
-
j
Free air temperature (Tfat)
-
k
Total temperature (Tt)
These functions shall be derived from a central air data computer (AS 417) and through system wiring applied to the respective indicator.

Issuing Committee
A-4 Aircraft Instruments Committee
The A-4 Committee is responsible for mechanical, electromechanical and electronic cockpit instrumentation standards applicable to all civil aircraft, with emphasis on minimum performance standards intended for reference in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Technical Standard Orders (TSO).
A list of the technical reports developed by the A-4 Committee can be obtained by searching on 'aircraft instruments' and selecting 'standards', from the SAE Home Page. A-4 Standards For additional information about the A-4 Committee or SAE, contact Maureen Lemankiewicz mlemank@sae.org Let us contact you about suitable committee participation opportunities. * Redlines comparisons are available for those standards
listed in the Revision History that contain a radio button. A
redline comparison of the current version against a revision is
accomplished by selecting the radio button next to the standard and
then selecting 'compare'. At this time, Redline versions only exist
for some AMS standards. SAE will continue to add redline versioning
with ongoing updates to SAE MOBILUS.
