Scope
This SAE Aerospace Recommended Practice covers the recommended requirements for the lighting and characteristics of instruments; information plates and displays, emergency, cautionary, advisory and status displays; circuit breaker and toggle switch positions; and the recommended requirements for the utility lighting system.
Rationale
Two documents had similar wording and scope ARP1161 and ARP4103. Multiple reviews were done to compare both documents. Review found that ARP1161A information is old and not up to date to include newer flight deck lighting technology. ARP4103 covered duplicate information and was more up to date. Final review done at the fall meeting 2017 concluded to stabilize ARP1161A and make ARP4103 the prime document in this area.

Issuing Committee
The purpose of the A-20 Aircraft Lighting Committee is to provide a forum for the development of aerospace standards in aircraft lighting that will fulfill the needs and requirements of operation control and utility. The scope includes both interior and exterior lighting. A list of the technical reports developed by the A-20 Committee can be obtained by searching on 'aircraft lighting' and selecting 'standards', from the SAE Home Page. A-20 Standards

* Redlines comparisons are available for those standards
listed in the Revision History that contain a radio button. A
redline comparison of the current version against a revision is
accomplished by selecting the radio button next to the standard and
then selecting 'compare'. At this time, Redline versions only exist
for some AMS standards. SAE will continue to add redline versioning
with ongoing updates to SAE MOBILUS.
