Steel, Bars and Forgings, Carburizing, 1.8Ni - 0.25Mo (0.11 - 0.17C) (SAE 4615)
- Aerospace Material Specification
This specification covers an aircraft-quality, low-alloy steel in the form of bars, forgings, and forging stock.
These products have been used typically for carburized parts which require low minimum core hardness and allow a wide hardness range in sections 0.375 in. (9.50 mm) and under in nominal thickness, but usage is not limited to such applications. The core may or may not be machinable after hardening.
Data Sets - Support Documents
The committee of Carbon and Low Alloy Steels, AMS Committee E, shall prepare, coordinate, and revise documents related to carbon and low alloy steels technology, such as steel cleanliness and steel quality assurance sampling, through the participation of metals suppliers, users, and interested government agencies. Committee activities shall provide a forum for the cooperative interchange of ideas and experience of the participants, resulting in the publication of specifications that embody sound, established aerospace industry practices and requirements to serve the suppliers and customers of aerospace materials.
