Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) is currently under widespread investigation due to its potential to lower NOx and particulate emissions while maintaining high thermal efficiency. This compilation of papers brings together a range of interesting computational and experimental studies focused on the understanding of the HCCI process. A wide range of HCCI topics is covered that will be of interest to anyone involved in the HCCI research effort as well as anyone that is just interested in the future of the internal combustion engine. Specifically, the numerical modeling studies that are included, either describe new numerical models that address problems such as the flow/chemistry coupling, or are applied to a range of parametric studies. Experimental studies are also presented that investigate topics ranging from applied system level control issues to the more fundamental studies such as investigating the implications of fuel characteristics on the ignition process.
