This publication highlights recent advances in the steel substrate, properties, processing, performance, fatigue characteristics, and use in body and structural components. A bainitic microalloyed forging steel with relatively high tensile and impact strengths is described. The effects of tempering on case hardened (carburized and induction hardened) parts subject to bending and torsional loading conditions is studied. A third paper describes a unqiue method of making connecting rods by fracture splitting. A fourth paper discusses medium carbon microalloyed forging steels that possess enhanced machinability.
