  • 192 pages

This Special Publication deals with the development of new fuel injection components and concepts, as well as the characterization of injection system and spray behavior. The scope of the papers covers the entire breadth of the topic, starting with the injection system, following the injection process through the nozzle tip, into the combustion chamber and ending with descriptions of fundamental physical mechanisms in sprays.

Partial contents include: an improved mathematical model of conventional FIE processes; nozzle effects on high pressure diesel injection fuel jet models for multidimensional diesel combustion calculation: an update; investigation of drop size distribution in the spray of a five-hold, V.C.P. nozzle at high feeding pressure; liquid and vapor phase interaction sin piloted diesel fuel sprays; estimates of fuel evaporation: bench experiments and in-cylinder; theory and experiment on air entrainment in fuel sprays and interpretation of diesel combustion phenomena; and flow and heat transfer in impinging diesel sprays under cross flow conditioning.
