The heat transfer and thermal loading problems in diesel engines present continuous challenge to engineers. In the last decade, empirical knowledge accumulated in this area combined with research efforts have provided the engine designer with a set of tools to design and develop diesel engines. While state-of-the-art technology is sufficient to design a new engine, many questions regarding heat transfer and thermal loading remained unanswered.
This publication and the associated technical sessions in the 1979 Off-Highway Vehicle Meeting pull together practicing engineers to share, discuss, and compare the engineering and research efforts from organizations on a world wide basis.
The papers in this volume cover a wide range of subjects in the general area of diesel engine heat transfer and thermal loading. It is hoped that this volume will serve as a milestone as well as a springboard for the subject matter.
