Scope
The aim of this Information Report is to provide terms and definitions that are important for the user’s interaction with L2 through L4 driving automation system features per SAE J3016, which provides a basis for this document.
Rationale
This Information Report covers the human factors issues involving the integration of driving automation system features into the vehicle, focusing on issues that affect driver/user performance and experience through the driver/user-vehicle-interface (DVI). This report is intended to aid research and facilitate improved DVI design and usability by establishing working definitions for key concepts of levels 2 through 4 driving automation system features (SAE J3016), and to provide references to relevant research. This report serves as a complementary document to SAE J3016.

Issuing Committee
Driving Automation Systems Committee
This Technical Committee is responsible for all safety & human factors issues concerning driving automation systems and how these new technologies will impact the driving experience. This includes any vehicle that involves human operation, either in-vehicle or remotely located, transitioning into or out of Level 1 driving automation and above, and/or based on any interaction of human road users with driving automation systems.

* Redlines comparisons are available for those standards
listed in the Revision History that contain a radio button. A
redline comparison of the current version against a revision is
accomplished by selecting the radio button next to the standard and
then selecting 'compare'. At this time, Redline versions only exist
for some AMS standards. SAE will continue to add redline versioning
with ongoing updates to SAE MOBILUS.
