Small Engine and Powered Equipment Committee
The Small Engine and Powered Equipment Committee is part of the Specialized Vehicle and Equipment Council. The committee is responsible for preparing, reviewing and updating SAE Standards, Recommended Practices and Information Reports that enhance the performance, efficiency, safety, and service of small engines and equipment powered by small engines. Engineering standards activities enable the design, development, application and testing of small engines, equipment, and related components. The committee is actively updating existing documents as well as developing new standards. Small engines are generally defined by the following criteria: 1. Less than 1.0 liter (61 cu. in.) total displacement and 2. Less than 30 Kw (40 hp) power output. The limits established above are not rigidly prescribed, since larger engines may legitimately fall within the committee scope where there is family similarity or other design characteristics in common with engines falling within the above designated limits. Participants in the SAE Small Engine and Powered Equipment Committee include suppliers, consulting firms, government and other interested parties.
