Scope
The scope of this SAE Recommended Practice is restricted to the testing of jacks supplied as original equipment on passenger cars, light trucks, and vans. To this end, both component suppliers and vehicle manufacturers are guided in the proper design and testing of jacks. The purpose of this document is to provide a test procedure that can be used to ensure reasonable quality and uniformity for vehicle jacks as supplied as original equipment.

Issuing Committee
The Towability Committee is part of the Service Development Technical Steering Committee that reports to the Motor Vehicle Council (MVC). The Committee is responsible for developing and maintaining SAE Standards, Recommended Practices, and Information Reports related to the design, development and testing of vehicles to allow for damage free towing, transporting and recovery of light and medium duty vehicles. These documents assist light and medium duty passenger vehicle manufacturers (OEMs) and the towing and recovery equipment manufacturers.
