Scope
This SAE Recommended Practice establishes the mounting hardware to be used with demountable rims, wheels for demountable rims, rim spacers designed for 28 degrees bevel mounting systems, and intended for use on commercial vehicles. The dimensions given are those necessary to maintain serviceability and interchangeability of mounting hardware.
This document is divided into two sections. Section 1 establishes the practice for new designs for mounting hardware. Section 2 records information on current mounting hardware. Special and less common applications are not covered in this document.
Rationale
This Recommended Practice covers spoke wheels and demountable rims which were designed a while ago and are still in use. The technology and products are mature and not likely to change in the foreseeable future.

Issuing Committee
The responsibility of the Truck and Bus Wheel Committee of the Truck and Bus Brake and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems Steering Committee is to initiate, develop, review and approve the recommended practices, standards, and information reports related to hubs, wheels and the wheel mounting systems of buses, trucks and tractor-trailer combinations intended for highway use. The Wheel Committee is constituted so as to be aware of other SAE wheel activity and to prevent duplication of effort.
