Scope
This document specifies instructions to verify proper calibration of all balancing machines used for processing gas turbine rotors. Detailed test procedures and test log samples are provided to evaluate the condition of the machine under test. These performance and test requirements may be used for new installations, periodic surveillance, or following repairs that may have affected machine performance.
Calibration of the balancing machine is an activity done prior to verification testing and is outside the scope of this document. Troubleshooting of difficulties during the verification tests is also outside the scope of this document; this document is purely an instructive procedure.
Rationale
This standard serves to revise and consolidate the verification test sections formerly found in the following individual SAE Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) documents into one single SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) document:

Issuing Committee
The SAE EG-1A Balancing committee concerns itself with all balancing methods and procedures as they relate to the interests of the aerospace industry. The group’s scope includes creating, preparing and, maintaining all relevant specifications, recommended practices, standards and, requirements for rotor balance measurement, evaluation and, correction. The SAE EG-1A committee includes OEMs, suppliers, processors, consulting firms, government, academia and others throughout both the commercial and military aerospace industries.

* Redlines comparisons are available for those standards
listed in the Revision History that contain a radio button. A
redline comparison of the current version against a revision is
accomplished by selecting the radio button next to the standard and
then selecting 'compare'. At this time, Redline versions only exist
for some AMS standards. SAE will continue to add redline versioning
with ongoing updates to SAE MOBILUS.
