Scope
This standard defines general requirements for spherical, radial-journal, conical, and thrust bearings which are of laminated elastomeric construction. These bearings are for use in an environment having a temperature spectrum of -65 to +160 °F while reacting steady state loads in addition to oscillating loads and motions. The operating temperature range of -65 to +160 °F reflects the current temperature range for existing parts, but allows for expansion in the future.
Rationale
This document was a MIL-SPEC that has been converted to this AS Standard. It was last revised in 1988, but it continues to be called out in contracts and drawing packages. The ACBG committee is the owner of this document and the Plain Bearing subcommittee voted to have it converted to an AS Standard, generalized and updated.

Issuing Committee
The objective of the Airframe Control Bearing Group (ACBG)is to provide industry experience and state of the art technology for airframe bearings, and issue as appropriate, published documents known as SAE Aerospace Standards. The focus of the Committees is present and future aircraft airframe control systems, bearings, and associated components.
The ACBG shall be responsible for the preparation, development, maintenance and promotion of all relevant specifications, standards, and requirements for airframe bearings, control system components, and associated hardware used in the design and construction of aerospace mechanical systems and subsystems. The ACBG shall also coordinate with other organizations for lubricants, control cables, and locking devices and shall utilize and promote the use of specifications published by those organizations. The ACBG shall function as a forum for technology transfer as it affects the Airframe bearing and control systems industry and for the enhancement of distribution channels.Reference

* Redlines comparisons are available for those standards
listed in the Revision History that contain a radio button. A
redline comparison of the current version against a revision is
accomplished by selecting the radio button next to the standard and
then selecting 'compare'. At this time, Redline versions only exist
for some AMS standards. SAE will continue to add redline versioning
with ongoing updates to SAE MOBILUS.
