Scope
This SAE Aerospace Standard establishes the requirements for a V-retainer coupling, flanges, and seal suitable for joining high pressure and high temperature ducting in aircraft bleed air systems. The rigid coupling joint assembly, hereafter referred to as “the joint,” shall operate within the temperature range of -65 to +1200 °F.
Rationale
AS1895/1, /4, /7, /20, /22, and /23 have QPL requirements manufacturers are having difficulty qualifying as the specification is written. The seal (/7 and /23) test requirements were interpreted differently for the seal manufacturers and the QPG. The specification needs to define the way to qualify the seals and clarify coupling qualification. The bolt callout in the procurement spec and the coupling parts standards versus the AS4108 spec needs to be consistent. Define rotational movement for the torsional moment tests and allow equivalent axial plug load test for ATP.

Issuing Committee
G-3, Aerospace Couplings, Fittings, Hose, Tubing Assemblies
This Committee is responsible for developing and maintaining standards for design, test, and procurement of fluid systems part standards to improve reliability and economy. Their primary focus is on AS standards development and support of military standards. The Committee also develops ISO standards in a Subcommittee Advisory Group (SCAG) to ISO/TC 20/SC 10, and SAE-MA derivatives thereof.
Structure: SAE G-3 -- Parent committee SAE G-3A -- Aerospace Couplings Subcommittee SAE G-3B -- Aerospace Fittings Subcommittee SAE G-3D -- Aerospace Hose Subcommittee SAE G-3E - Aerospace Tubing Assemblies Subcommittee U.S. SCAG to ISO/TC 20/SC 10 -- ISO standards Major projects: Support of Military Standards Reform Support of military standard conversions to MIL-PERF and MIL-DTL. Development of AS replacements for military standards designated for conversion. Establish document to list G-3 accepted replacements for replaced part standards and military back-up specifications. Development of PRI QML/QPL Development of Performance Review Institute (PRI) process for approval and surveillance of manufacturers (Qualified Manufacturer List, QML) and for approval of standard parts as qualified for use (Qualified Parts List, QPL). Development of ISO Standards, Imperial Units ISO/TC 20/SC 10 standards have typically been developed in SI units. The ISO has approved development of inch-based ISO standards to support commercial aviation. Basic design, test, and procurement specifications will be selected from military standards that are to be converted to Non-Government standard (NGS) and developed as ISO standards.Reference

* Redlines comparisons are available for those standards
listed in the Revision History that contain a radio button. A
redline comparison of the current version against a revision is
accomplished by selecting the radio button next to the standard and
then selecting 'compare'. At this time, Redline versions only exist
for some AMS standards. SAE will continue to add redline versioning
with ongoing updates to SAE MOBILUS.
