Scope
This SAE Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) establishes methods for testing airframe plain bearings. The purpose of ARP5448 and its associated slash sheets is to document test methods commonly used to evaluate airframe bearings. These test methods may be referenced in specifications, part standards, purchase orders, etc., when the test is deemed appropriate to the intended use of the bearing by the end user of the bearing. These test methods are not intended to encompass every conceivable requirement for an airframe bearing. The end user of the bearing must exercise engineering judgment to determine the most appropriate standard and/or nonstandard tests for the application.
Rationale
ARP5448 Revision B is a five year review and update of this specification.

Issuing Committee
The objective of the Airframe Control Bearing Group (ACBG)is to provide industry experience and state of the art technology for airframe bearings, and issue as appropriate, published documents known as SAE Aerospace Standards. The focus of the Committees is present and future aircraft airframe control systems, bearings, and associated components.
The ACBG shall be responsible for the preparation, development, maintenance and promotion of all relevant specifications, standards, and requirements for airframe bearings, control system components, and associated hardware used in the design and construction of aerospace mechanical systems and subsystems. The ACBG shall also coordinate with other organizations for lubricants, control cables, and locking devices and shall utilize and promote the use of specifications published by those organizations. The ACBG shall function as a forum for technology transfer as it affects the Airframe bearing and control systems industry and for the enhancement of distribution channels.Reference

* Redlines comparisons are available for those standards
listed in the Revision History that contain a radio button. A
redline comparison of the current version against a revision is
accomplished by selecting the radio button next to the standard and
then selecting 'compare'. At this time, Redline versions only exist
for some AMS standards. SAE will continue to add redline versioning
with ongoing updates to SAE MOBILUS.
