Scope
This SAE Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) establishes design guidance and photometric values for adequate cargo compartment and cargo access lighting systems for ground handling. The adoption of a standard set of illuminance values, found appropriate for the performance of the task in specified areas should expedite ground handling.
Rationale
This document establishes minimum performance levels for aircraft cargo compartment lights. Information contained herein has been expanded from ARP1283A in the areas of measurement conditions, lumen maintenance, and the inclusion of specific information relative to the use of Light Emitting Diodes and High Intensity Discharge Light source technologies.

Issuing Committee
The purpose of the A-20 Aircraft Lighting Committee is to provide a forum for the development of aerospace standards in aircraft lighting that will fulfill the needs and requirements of operation control and utility. The scope includes both interior and exterior lighting.
