Development of a High-Power Battery Cooling System for Series Hevs

We have been researching a high-power battery system for series hybrid electric vehicles (SHEVs). A prototype of the battery has been designed, and its excellent potential for providing high specific power and regenerative specific power for SHEV use has been confirmed. At the same time, the battery must be used below a certain temperature so as to avoid thermal deterioration. This requires a suitable cooling system for controlling the battery temperature which rises as a result of heat generation during charging and discharging. A cooling system for the battery pack has been designed and evaluated in bench tests. This paper describes the benefits of this cooling system.
