An Experimental and Analytical Investigation of Noise in a Simplified Car Body Interior

Automobile designers increasingly depend on simulation techniques to investigate the noise and vibration reduction capabilities of phonoabsorbent and damping materials. In this work, ANSYS, a commercial structural analysis finite element code, was used to model a simplified car interior having rigid walls, which precluded the possibility of accounting for the fluid-structural interaction. In view of the positive results obtained, the investigation will be extended to far more complex cavities with nonrigid walls to better simulate the cavities of real car interiors.
