The research project "Low Noise Road' has brought together three research groups in fields of tires, road pavement and vehicles. By systematical investigations, the influence of vehicle/tire combinations and the possibilities of reducing the exterior noise of passenger cars and trucks have been determined. On a closed testing area, a road section was laid out for measuring exterior noise levels. This section consists of a subsection with a standardized ISO reference pavement and five experimental subsections with low-noise road pavements. Together with the test vehicles experimental tires with varying different parameters have been studied. Within the scope of this project there has been developed a near to series prototype of a passenger car and a truck
