Validation of the Apparatus Used for Vehicle Particulate Emission Measurement
Published November 04, 1997 by Institution of Mechanical Engineers in United Kingdom
An experimental-based calibration of a regulated light-duty CVS dilution tunnel has been carried out using monodisperse calibration aerosols over the size range of interest (0.1 to 10 μm aerodynamic diameter). The investigation focused on: the effect on particle collection of the inlet "Chinese hat" fitted to the CVS sampler; the aerosol transport through the pipe between the entry of the CVS sampler and the filter; the effect of the diameter of the flexible pipe used to connect the vehicle tailpipe to the dilution tunnel; and the effect of the orientation of the flexible pipe.
