Charge-Cooler Effectiveness Model for Unsteady Flow in Engine Manifolds

Abstract
Charge inlet temperature has a fundamental affect on engine performance. A reliable charge cooler model is therefore essential in wave action engine simulations if engine behavior is to be accurately predicted. This paper presents a technique by which the heat transfer coefficient of a charge-cooler can be determined over the full operating range of an engine for use with an existing charge-cooler wave action boundary. A comparison between simulated and experimental results is also presented.
