We have all read about the software crisis facing industry today; some of us have even experienced it firsthand. The solution to this growing crisis is the implementation of sound software management practices into the development process-and key to effective software management is the availability of accurate and timely information. Software Quality Assurance (SQA), as an integral part of the overall development process, should support these software management practices by being a source of this information. However, SQA, as a set of activities, can not remain static ant unchanging Over time as an organization matures and its management goals change, the information that SQA needs to provide must also change. The focus of SQA activities must change from simple process verification to process validation and improvement.
