Abstract
The level of hydrocarbon emissions from spark-ignition engines is subject to strict legislation. Crevices represent the principal source of hydrocarbon emissions and can contribute up to 40% of the total emissions. To address this problem, a three-dimensional model representing the formation of hydroca emissions has been developed. This model makes it possible to simulate trapping in the cylinder crevices. It takes into account the movement and post-oxidation of the hydrocarbons from their sources to their exhaust. Finally, measurements were made of the emissions to adjust and validate the simulation results.
