Abstract
We have developed a thin type analog instrument cluster using LED for illumination. The space generated by reducing the thickness of the instrument is utilized to accommodate a HUD (Head Up Display) unit; this has enabled us to develop a small-sized, combined HUD and analog instrument cluster.
We describe the element technologies worked out for downsizing, LED illumination. HUD optical design, and improvement of the dot matrix DSTN-LCD that was adopted as a HUD unit, proposing the result as an effective means for automobile display unit which will handle the information of the future.
