Research of Compact Motor Driven Abs

In an effort to make ABS for motorcycles, compact and light, and to possibly enhance caliper pressure controllability, research was conducted on an ABS applying motor driven modulators and a fuzzy inference map. The modulator which adjusts the caliper pressure by a control piston is driven by a control motor with a rare earth magnet, instead of conventional pressure control by solenoid valves. In the braking test using an actual motorcycle a smoother operating feeling was achieved, because of continuous caliper pressure control over a broad dynamic range as compared with the solenoid ABS.
